Today, we published the LUV ART LUX digital planners that you should use. You, I mean everyone. Share it with your auntie, uncle, children, and friends.

Diaries, Journals, Planners - are productivity tools that help human beings gain clarity of thought, improve our organization, and achieve goals.

Psychology Today published a wonderful article outlining 7 reasons why journaling is something to consider in 2021:

  1. A journal acts as a container for sentiments, hopes, and dreams.
  2. Journaling provides an emotional release and gives a voice to feelings that may have been suppressed.
  3. Writing in a journal builds self-awareness and helps to create a narrative.
  4. As you put your thoughts down on paper, you may find that you feel more grateful for your life as a whole.
  5. The act of writing in a journal fosters exploration and self-discovery.
  6. You can begin to see the light through the darkness as you write.
  7. Journal writing provides you with inspiration for change.

Courtney E. Ackerman, MA, Researcher of positive organizational psychology, discussed 83 benefits of journaling for depression, anxiety, and stress. She said,

"Effective journaling is a journaling practice that helps you meet your goals or improves your quality of life. This can look different for each and every person, and the outcomes can vary widely, but they are almost always very positive.

Journaling can be effective for many different reasons and help you reach a wide range of goals. It can help you clear your head, make important connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and even buffer or reduce the effects of mental illness!"

Collectively, diaries, journals, and planners also help us improve our mental health and wellbeing. Writing, reading, and synthesizing the information you record in these tools helps you create order when your world feels like it’s in chaos. Journaling, particularly the activity of writing your thoughts, helps with knowing yourself by revealing private fears, thoughts, and feelings

Goal Setting

The link between accomplishments, and using productivity tools such as a diary, journal, and planners are well established. Imagine yourself going to work aimlessly every day, talking to others without a reason, working out just because you have to, and not having any aspirations for yourself or those around you. How would you feel? Tony Robbins, a world-famous motivational speaker, and coach had said that “Setting goals is the first step from turning the invisible to visible.”

According to positive psychologists, by training our mind to think about what we want in life and work towards reaching it, the brain automatically rewires itself to acquire the ideal self-image and makes it an essential part of our identity. Some people may argue that they don't set goals, however, a vision board is goal setting. Also, following a system is following goals that were set for you. According to goal setting theory, (1) hard goals produce a higher level of performance (output) than easy goals; (2) specific hard goals produce a higher level of output than a goal of “do your best”; and (3) behavioral intentions regulate choice behavior.

Better Business Practice

Don't feel bad if you hate journaling - it's not required for you to live a happy life. Find what works for you. One of the main issues with using a diary, planner, or journal is that you must write in them and review the contents. Some people have difficulting putting their thoughts on paper in writing and would prefer talking about the ideas they hold in their heads.

There are neurological benefits that come with the act of writing itself. A 2014 study from Princeton University and the University of California Los Angeles showed that students learn better when they take notes by hand than when they type on a keyboard. The research suggests that writing by hand allows the student to process a lecture’s contents and reframe, which leads to better understanding and memory encoding.

Ideas and thoughts can be captured using a voice-note app on cellphones. Capture images and even send yourself a daily text or email are good practices for getting started. However, of all the creative means of expression available to human beings, none intrinsically champions critical thinking enhances creativity, and improves clarity of thought quite like writing. Writing makes us smarter.

The truth is that all you need to journal is a pen and a piece of paper. Any old notebook will do. However, if you want to create a ritual out of journaling, then you might consider investing in a special notebook just for your own thoughts and musings. Here is a great article about getting started.

Paper vs Digital Diaries, Journals, and Planners

I use a digital calendar for scheduled work meetings but maintain my personal appointments and journal in a written calendar. I appreciate getting reminders before meetings but use them sparingly. I enjoy journaling using a journaling app that allows me to take voice notes, paste website links, and store personal pictures.  I use a paper diary for making to-do lists because it allows me to be more thoughtful and think about what I want to accomplish. Striking through an item on a paper to-do list is much more satisfying than the digital equivalent. I also, love to map my ideas out using a digital mind-mapping tool. My official planner is completely digital and linked to my project management tool.

We offer customers both paper and digital diaries, journals, and planners. Paper offers more material options. For instance, you can purchase a leather planner with scented parchment paper. Digital offers more page layout options and can be synced across many devices. You can perform deep automation with digital planners/organizers. Here is a comparison of the pros and cons of Digital vs Paper

  Pros   Cons
Digital Planner
Ability to sync information across many devices   Sensitive or private information may be stolen, leaked, or hacked
Can easily share information and materials with others   Frequent app, program, and system updates, upgrades, and backups are necessary
Can quickly transfer information from one application or program   Files may be corrupted, infected by a virus, or completely lost
Can print out information as needed   Information is not really private as it is shared with third-parties

Paper Planner Private way to collect and store information   Cannot search information easily
Writing makes you slow down, and take your time   Updating large chunks of information takes time, or is completely unwieldy
Can look at things side by side on a table or desk   Transferring information to another format requires typing, scanning, or reading
Can access without an internet connection, or electricity   No backup: once you lose a planner, it’s gone
